Balayage  + Style Specialist

Instagram @hairbyjessicaybarra

Jessica Ybarra was born and raised in Richland, Washington. Growing up playing sports her original plan was to become a physical therapist, but she shortly learned it wasn’t for her and realized she needed a creative outlet. Starting out with just braiding her own hair and then doing all of her friends hair for any special event. She quickly found a love for it. At 18 Jessica moved to Orange County to attend cosmetology school at Toni & Guy in Costa Mesa. After moving back to Washington shortly after school, Jessica began assisting renowned stylist and educator Kathy Nunez who owns Studio One Salon in Kennewick, Washington.

Being Kathy’s assistant gave Jessica opportunities to travel and assist Kathy at her hair painting classes all over Washington and California. After a year of learning from Kathy, Jessica began taking her own clients at Studio One as well as their other location, Encore Salon. In her time spent in Washington Jessica was nominated for a Behind The Chair One Shot Award, was a finalist in multiple Kenra styling competitions. Eventually winning the Kenra Professional, Spray Responsibly styling competition which won her a trip to the iHeart Radio music festival in Las Vegas, NV.

Jessica specializes in balayage, styling, and braiding. She loves everything about hair, the new challenges it brings everyday, the continuous learning opportunities, and the feeling she gets from making her clients look and feel beautiful.

Master Stylist

Holly’s roots are in Chicago, but she’s a true southern California girl at heart, chasing after salt in the air, and sand in her hair. In her free time, Holly loves being swept around the dance floor, traveling to new places around the world and works hard to achieve her goals and dreams.

Originally Holly went to school for Fashion Design, and quickly realized it wasn’t the career path for her. She did finish the program, though, and immediately enrolled at Pivot Point International Academy in Chicago in 2007, to pursue a career in the beauty industry. She feels that it was one of the best decisions she had ever made.

After graduating, she completed an extended two year training program at Salon Estem in Glen Ellyn, IL. The program allowed her to learn cutting and styling techniques that very few get to learn early on in their career, including Vidal Sassoon training. Holly continues to further her education by taking a variety of training courses, and attending multiple academies with high-end product lines such as Prive, Aquage, and Kevin Murphy.

Dedicated to her craft, Holly was given the opportunity to take her skills to the next level, and in 2015 she began creating innovative signature styles for visual imagery. Some of her work can be seen in the Italia Vogue. Her goal is to build a stunning portfolio throughout her career, with captivating stories behind each experience.

She specializes in balayage, voluminous blo

wouts, and formal up-styling. Another one of her specialties includes a unique layering technique that involves cutting the layers internally, rather than on top. This gives texture and movement, while removing excess weight and creating less frizz within. Her favorite part about being a hair stylist is the final look. She loves seeing the smile on her clients’ faces, knowing that she made them feel beautiful.

Holly’s mission is to provide the highest level of customer service to each client that sits in her chair. She provides a full consultation before each service, to ensure she understands the client’s needs and that she is able to communicate what will be possible during each appointment. She knows that taking this extra time in imperative to establishing long-lasting relationships of trust and commitment.

Jessi Frieberg
Master Stylist

Instagram @jessilynnstylist

Jessi Frieberg grew up in the small town of Reedsburg, Wisconsin. She realized her love of doing hair during prom season in high school when she found herself doing all of her friend’s hair and makeup. After high school she moved to Madison, Wisconsin and attended Regency Beauty Institute. Immediately after she graduated, Jessi started working at a small college salon on the University of Wisconsin campus. This is where she found her love of doing color and more specifically blondes.
After working at that salon for three years she knew she needed a challenge and was ready for something more. Jessi started working at a very established Aveda salon in Madison, Anaala Salon and Spa. While taking as many color education classes as she could to expand her knowledge, Jessica found her passion in blondes and balayage. In her nearly four years at Anaala, Jessi has been given some amazing opportunities, one of those opportunities led to her doing hair for a Timemagazine photo shoot.
Jessi has always wanted to move to California ever since she was a young girl, so when the opportunity to join the Spruce family came about, she was ready to make the move. She specializes in balayage, blondes and corrective colors. She also loves to do fashion colors as well. Jessi strives to make every client feel happy and excited about their new hair.

Jesse Kannelly
Salon Manager

Originally from Bartlett, IL, a suburb of Chicago, Jesse never expected to be living in beautiful, sunny San Diego. She attended Pivot Point Academy for cosmetology in Chicago in 2013 and began her journey in the beauty industry. Jesse worked and trained at My Salon in St. Charles, IL. Learning all of the basics of her knowledge and salon skills at her first job. She was apart of this team up until she moved to San Diego in 2016.

Taking a leap and moving to California when she was 20 years old was something she never saw herself doing, but could not imagine her life any differently now. After receiving her cosmetology license in CA and starting the job hunt once again, Jesse stumbled upon Salon Spruce and was lucky enough to become apart of the team. She began as Ryan’s assistant and started learning more than she ever imagined. Assisting him day to day in the salon and at Masters of Balayage classes.

Jesse has shifted gears and taken on a management role at Salon Spruce, she is also receiving her Associates in Business Management. Management and business is something she has always been interested in and she is incredibly excited to take this next step in her career and see where it takes her.

As well as managing, Jesse still assists Ryan day to day in the salon which she loves. Styling and interacting with clients are her favorite things. Seeing their reactions after their hair is done and the smile on their face is priceless to her. She is happier than ever in her role and Spruce and excited for the future.

Jeni Weeden
Owner, Social Media Strategist

Instagram @jeniweeden

Jeni grew up in a small California mountain town called Topanga Canyon,  just minutes from the beach near Malibu. You could find her at the barn riding her horse, boogie boarding, building go-karts from scrap wood, and forts made of foliage and bamboo. Jeni was a true tomboy at heart.

At age 17, Jeni and her mom packed up the Volvo station wagon and moved her to a remote cabin on 10 acres in Conifer, Colorado. While there, Jeni backpacked for two weeks in the Sangre de Cristo Mountains with Outward Bound as the only girl out of ten men. She gained her instate residency for the University of Colorado, and moved to Boulder. She joined the Equestrian Team, worked several equestrian training positions, and received her Bachelors of Studio Arts.

After college, Jeni held various positions in retail management and sales, inching her way towards her goal of Visual Merchandising for Theory in Malibu, California. However, her heart always led her back to the equestrian world.

Jeni followed her passion for the equestrian industry and worked alongside Grand Prix and Olympic Dressage and Hunter/Jumper trainers in Los Angeles, until she landed a job in Del Mar, California. Jeni had been living in San Diego for about a year when she met Ryan. They were engaged months later in New York while on vacation.

Changing gears, Jeni took the position as Operations Manager at Salon Spruce, and is very excited to be in an industry that generates happiness. She is elated about being part of the Spruce culture.
